WE HAVE A WINNER!!
Well, what fun to put the title of my work into the hands of others. Thanks to everybody that joined in, and thanks to those who took advantage of the special intro pricing.
There were some great appropriate names submitted, and the one I choose, comes from Bob Clark of Milwaukee, WI, USA.
The simplicity of his name “Mutha” struck a chord with me.In Bob’s words…
“This name might serve to restore some of Zappa’s original intent in naming his band the “Mothers” referencing the jazz idiom for great players. While the band officially named the Mothers of Invention did last only the first phase of his career, Zappa remained a “Mutha” of a guitar player, and always singularly inventive.”Thanks Bob! You know how to reach me if you want to take advantage of my 1/2 price offer & put “Mutha on your wall.
Thanks again to all…
Tom

Frank Zappa “Mutha”, Painted by Tom Noll, Titled by Bob Clark
ORIGINAL CONTEST POST:
GuitarDaddy,
Returning for a FZ name!
With the busy holidays behind us, I want to revisit the painting I did recently that was never titled. One of my most highly requested paintings…the one and only…Frank Zappa!!!!
At the time of creation, I had alluded to a contest to name the painting, and a number of you have since asked if it was coming about. I’d now like to give people a chance to give it that perfect name. At the same time, I want to revert back to my original introductory price offer for print reproductions.
As true Zappa fans step up to give this a proper title, I will offer a limited edition print at half the price of the intro offer to the person who comes up with the name that best fits my creation. I’d like more than just a song title, but will entertain names that aptly portray the Frank Zappa that held our attention for 3 decades of diverse musical influences, and continues…to this day.
Prints during this contest will be intro priced at $239, plus $5 to ship ($12.50 international) If you’ve purchased one of the prints, and win with the best name, I’ll credit you half your funds back.
If you’d like to lock in the lowest print number, Email me, I’ll invoice you via paypal, and you’ll have yours in your hands shortly.
The contest, and intro price will end January 18th, and the winner will be announce the next day.
Good luck, keep an open mind, & have fun!
Thanks
Tom

MenZZa !
I’m thinking the last line from one of Frank’s famous quotes.
“Information is not knowledge.
Knowledge is not wisdom.
Wisdom is not truth
Truth is not beauty
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
MUSIC IS THE BEST.”
Frank Zappa
My suggestion is “Mutha of Invention” or “Mutha” for short. This name might serve to restore some of Zappa’s original intent in naming his band the “Mothers” referencing the jazz idiom for a great players.
“Verve insisted that the band officially rename themselves because “Mother”, in slang terminology, was short for “motherfucker” — a term that apart from its profane meanings can denote a skilled musician.[7] The label suggested the name “The Mothers Auxiliary”, which prompted Zappa to come up with the name “The Mothers of Invention.”” Mutha suggests more directly the original connotation of motherfucker.
The painting evokes some of the visceral, aggressive creative energy associated with a true musical motherfucker.
While the band officially named the Mothers of Invention did lasted only the first phase of his career. Zappa remained a “Mutha” of a guitar player and always singularly inventive.
Additionally the multiple pony tails in the painting echo the hairdo Zappa wore on the cover of We’re Only In It For the Money where the band dressed in drag wearing dresses possibly suggesting a perverse sort of motherhood.
“Trippin The Rift”
Tom…
Frank used signals to the band during performances to change rhythms and tempos …
one of these was to increase the intensity of a certain passage. His reference to this was “putting some eyebrows on it”. My submittal for the print title. I had the privilege of meeting Dweezil a few weeks ago and chat with him while he signed a strat for me. When he was about to sign I told him to put some eyebrows on it, meaning to sign it nice and big under the stop. He turned his head and smiled. He knew what I meant.
The Poodle Bites!
The Fabulous Furry Freak Mother
Filthy Habits
Cosmic Debris Mother
I think “Here comes my bullet!” would be the perfect title. It’s a quote and an apt description of FZ.

My suggestion for title is “Freak Out” sounds appropriate for Frank Zappa

Thanks for the submissions!!! I’m looking for quality, not quantity, so give er some thought and let’s see what nails this.
Hmmm, what would Frank think? What would Dweezil call it?

“TURN IT DOWN!!!”” … famous quote from Joe’s Garage.
It would be a travesty if your painting was not titled, “The Grand Wazoo,” the title of Zappa’s jazz-fusion album released in late 1972.
The painting is amazing, by the way. Congratulations, Tom.
Perfect name: Freak Out!
You can thank Randy from the “Parker Brothers” for turning me on to your work. Love it. Possible name for the Zappa Painting; “Truly Orchestral”
re-invented.!
“Shut Up ‘N’ Play Yer Guitar”…from the album of the same name.
