Name the “Rory Gallagher” Painting Contest!

December 1, 2012 By GuitarDaddy

CONTEST UPDATE!
ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7TH AT MIDNIGHT!

After the overwhelming response to the previous “Name the Painting” contests for Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa, Buddy Guy, Roy Buchanan, Ronnie Earl and Billy Gibbons, my good friend and world-renowned artist Tom Noll is back at it again with Irish blues-rock guitar legend Rory Gallagher on his canvas!

Rory’s influence spread through the generations – from Slash to Johnny Marr, from U2’s The Edge to Queen’s Brian May, and onto The Manics’ James Dean Bradfield – any aspiring player who encountered him was bound to be energized or transformed.

In 2010, Gallagher was ranked #42 on Gibson.com’s List of their Top 50 Guitarists of All Time.

Gallagher was also listed on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, ranked at 57th place.

Jimi Hendri was once asked: “So…whats it like being the best guitarist in the world?”
…to which he replied: “I dont know you’d have to ask Rory Gallagher that question”.

In the years that have passed since Rory Gallagher’s death, aged 47 on June 14 1995, his true stature has become ever more clear. This soft spoken Irishman, characterised by his flowing locks and trademark working man stage clothes, was far from ordinary. Gallagher was a self taught virtuoso who forged a musical revolution in his native land, shunned the traps of fame and stardom yet became a universally acclaimed international folk hero.

Rory Gallagher died too young with much still to achieve and offer but the wealth and quality of the material he produced in his lifetime insures his ever questing, hungry spirit lives on.

Rory Gallagher Sketch by artist Tom Noll

Here is the “sketch” that Tom Noll created which captures the emotion of Rory’s music and is the inspiration for Tom’s newest painting!

Tom estimates the Rory Gallagher painting will take another 1-2 weeks to complete (progress shots will be posted on his web site – CLICK HERE), with prints of the original oil painting available … IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!!

The artprints are super high quality giclees, which utilize fade resistant UV archival inks. They’re produced from the original oil painting, and are rolled and shipped in a rigid tube along with a certificate of authenticity. The prints are perfect for matting and framing, and will be a memorable addition to any room.

The 27″x19″ prints can be pre-ordered at the introductory price of $239.00 (plus $8.00 to ship within the USA; $12.50 internationally)

Take a look at the “Creative Bone ArtWorks” Official Web Site and browse Tom’s extensive gallery of “Art That Rocks” which includes many guitar players like Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Muddy Waters, Keith Richards, David Gilmour, B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Les Paul, Johnny Cash, Gary Moore, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Roy Buchanan, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits and Billy Gibbons. There you will find information about pricing, sizes and other info on Tom’s creative artwork.

GuitarDaddy Tip: Pre-Order your Rory Gallagher print by contacting Tom directly. Pre-ordering will allow you to reserve a low-numbered print and to receive your print much faster.

“This painting captures Rory in a classic pose playing his signature Fender Stratocaster. I’m looking forward to the Guitar Buzz readers coming up with some great name suggestions!” Thanks…Tom

“Rory” I chose this simple title because his name is synonymous with the embodiment of his music, influence, passion, love of the art and his humble approach. When only his first name is stated one immediately conjures the image of him in your minds eye. When you think of other artists such as Hendrix, Page you must think of the last name. There are very few artists in the generations that can simply be mentioned by their first name…in this case Rory says it all and the artwork you have created Tom captures the spirit and essence of Rory…

    Edged in Blue…blue mat/frame

I grew up in the St. Louis, Missouri, USA area and we are home to The Blues. “Edged in Blue” was Rory’s signature song on our local AOR station, K-SHE 95. Edged in Blue belongs in STL! If nothing else, I wanted to share with you how important Rory was in St. Louis!

Rory appeared in St. Louis several times and I had the privilege of seeing him and hearing his amazing guitar work on more than one occasion. I would love to bring this painting to St. Louis and share it with K-SHE 95, on loan, until it found its way to a place of honor in my home.

    Sincerely,

    Diane Haller

Im not sure if I’m on the proper page to enter the Rory Gallagher competition. But I will put my choice of title forward.. I have thought a lot about this, sacrifice keeps coming to mind, because Rory did sacrifice his life for his music & fans. Hence I would say ” pure raw Rory” because this is who he was to his fans around the world.. Best Regards Mary Cull..

Rory was extremely proud of his Irishness. His cultural influences were also a part of his unique style. His name in Irish, which he would have used at school is Ruairí Ó Gallchobhair . That is what the painting should be called – “Ruairí Ó Gallchobhair” – it is pronounced the same :-)

  67. Alan Nabi says

    December 1, 2012 at 2:52 am

I am thinking – “Soul Bender”
As if you’ve seen him live or really immersed yourself in his music, you realize Rory plays with an intense passion for his craft. He truly loves what he is playing and bares his soul when playing, with honest masterful touch & feeling, which in turn affects our soul .
This painting for me, shows Rory immersed in his song, his soulful passion flowing freely, bending the soul of his audience.
