I am not insane! I just love my guitar…

May 17th, 2013 No comments

I came across this image a few days ago and I keep going back to it because it speaks to me about our own unique and individual love of music.

Everyone has a favorite song or artist – you know…the one when it comes on the radio you have a hard time sitting still or not singing along… because it moves you?

We all gather here because we all love to play the guitar.  We play blues, rock, jazz, country, metal, acoustic, electric and bass.  We are all uniquely different but share a common passion for our instruments.

I always start tapping (read:stomping) my feet when I hear Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa or Eric Clapton play and go looking for a guitar whenever I hear those classic blues rock licks. And I can’t sit still when tempo gets above 115bpm…!

The trap we fall in is when we choose not to hear a certain genre of music because it is not “our genre”.

Writing this blog has opened my eyes to so many new artists and so many musical styles I may once have shut my ears to. Not any more. I want it all. Bring it on!

How about you? What guitar styles move you?

PRS Introduces The P22 Trem Model Guitar

April 18th, 2013 No comments

PRESS RELEASE:

PRS P22 Trem

PRS Guitars has introduced the P22 Trem model guitar!

The solidbody piezo-equipped P22 Trem is essentially two guitars in one, providing the same classic humbucker tones and authentic acoustic sounds as the original P22 now with the added versatility of PRS’ prized tremolo bridge.

The P22 Trem’s voicing, EQ, layout and feel as well as the redesigned PRS/LR Baggs piezo board are all maintained in this trem-equipped model, and the materials and design of the bridge have also been upheld without sacrificing any proprietary specifications.

There are two output jacks on the P22 Trem, allowing guitarists to plug into their favorite electric or acoustic guitar amp or DI into a soundboard. By utilizing the separate blend control, the tone of the P22 Trem’s 57/08 pickups can also be combined with acoustic sounds through a single output.

Starting with the tried-and-true combination of a figured maple top, a mahogany back and neck and a rosewood fretboard, the P22 Trem looks as good as it sounds. For more information and to watch a demo video, visit www.prsguitars.com/p22trem.

Sell This Guitar!

February 10th, 2013 No comments

Walk into your local music store and see if you can find a 1955 Gibson Les Paul Jr. Chances are, unless you happen to live next door to Norman’s Rare Guitars, you won’t have much luck.

And how do you go about selling a vintage guitar when collectors are spread throughout the world?

Thanks to Sell This Guitar, guitar sellers and buyers will have a one-stop resource to find every guitar for sale around the globe.

Created as a personal project from Seymour Duncan’s Media Manager Scott Olson, Sell This Guitar uses the web to do what it does best: connect buyers and sellers of guitars, basses and acoustics.

Whether you are looking to buy the $99 Squire from the kid down the street, or you’re searching for that ‘52 Goldtop you’ve been dreaming of, Sell This Guitar can help you find it. Using a maps interface, the system allows you to search within your own town or even globally for specific guitars. You can easily sell an electric, acoustic, or bass guitar by clicking where you live, entering a brief description of your instrument and uploading a picture. A simple contact form allows people to get in touch with you without making your email public.

Some notable features include:

- Worldwide searchability

- Free access to buy or sell instruments

- Image upload and icon selection options

- Rare guitar finds within your own backyard

- Built-in auto-location randomizer to ensure your actual location is secure. While guitar stores will want to use the precise icon feature, Sell This Guitar’s auto-location feature will give users the piece of mind that no one will know the real location of their prized guitars. If any scurvy tone pirate wants to try and find your treasured ES-175 while you are away, they will have nothing to play but the blues.

- Sell This Guitar offers a great outlet for selling that guitar that you no longer use, and finding the guitar of your dreams. Use the search feature to discover instruments both within your community and within the walls of your local guitar stores.

The Retromatic Guitar from Peerless

January 10th, 2013 No comments

Peerless Guitar has announced a new line of small-bodied, thinline guitars – the Retromatic series. Here are the details from the company:

The guitars come with a variety of options, either a single humbucker, or a combination of humbucker and P-90 pickups, with or without the 6-way varitone.

The bridge humbucker is wound vintage but hotter at 9.4k to give you that “crunch” when required and the neck P-90 Alnico V wound at 8.0k provides the clarity but with plenty of good, strong rock. The archtop contoured body consists of a mahogany sustain block and single “F” hole to retain that lively vibe while allowing you to perform with ease at high volume. The 628mm scaled neck consists of 22 polished frets.

Several retro finishes are available including silver, teal green, honey sunburst, ivory, black, gold, and candy apple red, finished in a combination of either black or aged white/black triple binding with nickel hardware.

These are really slick looking guitars – I love the vibe and will be checking them out personally when I travel to NAMM 2013 in a couple of weeks.

The 2012 Les Paul Award Goes To Pete Townshend

September 7th, 2012 No comments

Named for one of the industry’s most revered personalities, the Les Paul Award was created in 1991 to honor individuals or institutions that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of recording technology.

Pete Townshend

This year’s Les Paul Award recipient, Pete Townshend, has enjoyed one of the most intriguing, respected and multifaceted careers of any artist in the rock and roll era.

The outline of his life in music is well-known.

As the leader/guitarist/main songwriter for The Who for close to five decades now (with a few breaks), he has produced songs and albums that will endure long beyond our own lifetimes.

The Who were the original mod band, coming onto the scene in the wake of The Beatles, and a true force of nature unlike any other group playing the clubs in England at the time.

No other band boasted a drummer as explosive as Keith Moon, a bassist as inventive as John Entwistle, a singer with the pipes of Roger Daltrey or a guitarist and songwriter as vital and energetic as Pete.
