The Les Paul Swimming Pool

July 28th, 2012 No comments

It’s going to be 106 degrees in Phoenix, Arizona today – home of the GuitarDaddy.

(106°F = 41.11°C)… That’s pretty hot!

Les Paul Swimming Pool (by Aqua-Tech)

So what’s a hot guitar player to do on a hot Arizona day?

Jump in the pool!

No, this is not my swimming pool — but I sure wish it was! This image has been floating around the internet for a while and I have been waiting for the perfect day to publish it here on the Buzz.

Today’s the day!

This amazing swimming pool is shaped like a Les Paul guitar and was designed and built by the Canadian pool company, Aqua-Tech.

As the story goes, a passionate (and anonymous) guitar collector walked into their office looking for a company that could design a guitar-shaped swimming pool for his backyard.

Aqua-Tech presented him with an exact replica of a Les Paul Custom guitar!

Measuring 19 meters long, the inspiring swimming pool is very unique – perhaps the only one of it’s kind in the entire world!

Guitar Backing Tracks

July 21st, 2012 1 comment

“Backing Tracks” are music files where the lead guitar (and often the vocals) have been stripped from the recording — leaving the musical canvas open for you to fill in with your very own guitar chops.

There are a wide variety of downloadable backing tracks online in all popular genres. They are typically in MP3 format and can be played with the audio players already installed on most computers.

BT’s can be found for many popular cover tunes as well as more generic jam tracks.

IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube 2.0 for iPad supports the importing of backing tracks into its multi-track recording app – as do many of the latest recording platform products.

The best part is that they can be used for live performance or just for general practice!

Note: Some backing tracks are copyrighted and may require license fees to use in a commercial environment. It is always best to consult with the author/source of the track to be aware of any potential legal liability. Using backing tracks for “practice purposes” in the privacy of your home is generally acceptable. Even still, check with the author to be sure.

Backing Tracks are a great way to develop rhythm in your playing and can also help you memorize scales. Unlike the monotony of a metronome, backing tracks add a certain flair to your practice by giving you the feeling of playing with a real band.

Check out the site titled “NEW BACKING TRACKS” for some excellent links and downloads of Backing Tracks for Gary Moore, Carlos Santana, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Clapton, and many more.

Recently, Guitar Center held their “King of the Blues” contest and posted several Pete Anderson Blues Backing Tracks on their web site that could be downloaded for free.

Here are a couple of my favorites from their list, along with the Minor Pentatonic Scales that match up well with each track for soloing:

[Click the Arrow to play the Backing Track titled: Laid Down Blues]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Recorded in the Key of E.  This is a swampy, electrified delta blues with a freight train groove!

You can use the E Minor Pentatonic Scale (above) to solo with.

[Click the Arrow to play the Backing Track titled: Jazz Swing Blues]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

If you know of any other sites that offer “free to download” backing tracks, please add a comment to this post and share the love with other readers.

So what are you waiting for! Go grab your axe and JAM ALONG!

Carlos Santana – Guitar Face

July 21st, 2012 1 comment

Guitar Face: The act of making an unusual face while playing the guitar. The look typically resembles a look of pain, intense ecstasy, or sometimes even plain old gas.

Guitar face is a horribly disfiguring condition effecting tens of thousands of guitar players around the world.

Blues players (particularly electric blues players) seem to suffer the most horrendous effects.

Carlos Santana give us a classic here…

Tab Benoit and Ronnie Earl LIVE

July 16th, 2012 No comments

After our recent “Name the Ronnie Earl Painting” contest, I have been on the hunt for some fresh Ronnie video.

Then two days ago… on Friday the 13th, Tab Benoit and Ronnie Earl played together for the first time and YouTube has the video to prove it!

It was a great night at The Bull Run Restaurant with Tab Benoit rocking the house all night long and then inviting Ronnie Earl up on stage for a few tunes.

Joe Bonamassa and his 1959 Les Paul at Rumble Seat Music

July 2nd, 2012 No comments

I’m always in awe of a guitar player who can pick up a guitar, plug it in (clean) and without a band or a backing track or a chain of pedals, play something that makes you sit back and go… Wow! That was awesome!

So…Ladies and Gentlemen… I give you Joe Bonamassa playing his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard through a Rickenbacker Transonic amplifier at Rumble Seat Music… without a band, a backing track or a chain of pedals…!
