Rig Rundown for Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes

September 30th, 2011 No comments

In this video we get to see Warren’s amps: Diaz, Soldano and PRS, which all run through Marshall 4×12′s and his guitars that include some Gibson Les Pauls, ES-335s, Firebirds and a very rare 12-string Les Paul — one of only two in the world!

What I enjoyed most about this video was listening to Brian Farmer’s encyclopedic rambling as he went from one piece of gear to the next. After watching this video I have to believe he is one of the top guitar techs on the road. This guy knows his stuff!

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Sparks Debate Buy 1 Song or Entire CD?

September 30th, 2011 2 comments

This is an interesting video is which KWS talks about his methodology when he is writing songs for a new album.

Most interesting to me was his comment about the “SINGLE MENTALITY” which has certainly become a large shift in music sales over the past few years.

I admit… I am as guilty as most of you when it comes to buying “only the hit single for .99 cents” instead of buying the entire CD for $9.99 on iTunes or EMusic.

What do you think? Do you typically download only the song you want, a few tracks from an album, or do you want to hear the “entire story” that the artist created with the album release and download the entire album?

Fender Eric Clapton Signature Amps Coming Soon

Fender Eric Clapton Signature Amps

Fender just announced its first-ever signature amps–the Eric Clapton Twinolux, Eric Clapton Tremolux, and Eric Clapton Vibro-Champ are all based on Slowhand’s specifications.
- From the Premier Guitar Facebook Page

The information was minimal, so I did a little digging…and I read that Fender’s Visitor Center recently opened next to their Corona factory.

The visitor center encompasses a modest museum with exhibits on Fender legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck.

Visitors also will encounter a salute to the company’s founder, electric guitar innovator Leo Fender, on their way into a showroom filled with guitar equipment, accessories and memorabilia, as well as a room where potential customers can create their own customized guitar on the spot. Digging a bit further on the web I read this on Daddys.com/Blog:

One of the most exciting exhibits in the hall gave us the first look at Fender’s only signature amplifers, the Eric Clapton Series. It consists of three amplifiers, the 5 watt Vibro Champ ($999), the 12 watt Tremolux with English made Celestion G12-65 ($2295) and the 40 watt Twinolux with a Special Design Weber 12” speaker ($2999).

These amps are all hand wired in Corona and encased in a finger-joined solid pine cabinet that is covered with an antiqued golden -brown tweed. Clapton has been heavily involved in the design of these amps, you can bet they’re full of tone.

More to come as more information becomes available… stay tuned!

TheGuitarBuzz on Twitter

I am active on Twitter. Follow me at: http://Twitter.com/TheGuitarBuzz.

I send regular “tweets” about recent posts to the guitar blog, product reviews, contests, videos and other guitar-related stuff.

I also “re-tweet” from other guitar-related twitter members that I follow when I think the information is worth sharing.

I don’t automatically follow everyone who follows me on Twitter simply because it is too hard to keep track of everything that comes across my email, RSS Feeds and twitter inbox. Instead I stay focused on the latest guitar happenings and use my free time to write new posts for TheGuitarBuzz.com!

Bonamassa and Beth Hart are AMAZING Together

September 27th, 2011 No comments

The new CD “Don’t Explain” from Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa was released this week and I’m going to say it right here and now… “THIS CD IS GOING TO WIN AN AWARD” if not multiple awards.

Go ahead and quote me. That’s right, I said it first.

Beth’s voice, when matched with Joe’s guitar licks, create a fresh, new, exciting and down right magical mix of musical mastery. It’s blues, it’s ballads, it’s full of grit and soul… and it is groundbreaking — all in one.

If you follow this blog, you know I am a huge Bonamassa fan. But I bet 50% of you (or more) have never heard of Beth Hart.

Well get ready, you are going to hear a lot more about her as a result of this collaboration!

Gary Moore - Live at Montreux

GARY MOORE LIVE AT MONTREUX 2010

*FEATURING THREE BRAND NEW SONGS* ON CD, DVD, AND BLU-RAY SEPTEMBER 20

Eagle Rock Entertainment will release, on September 20, the very last live performance in the life of acclaimed guitarist/singer/songwriter Gary Moore. Live At Montreux 2010 strikingly shows a major return-to-rock for the musician who spent years exploring the blues. In fact, in the last days of his life, Moore, who died on February 6 of this year, was working on a new rock album.

What makes this release so compelling is the inclusion of three never-before-released gems, “Days Of Heroes,” “Where Are You Now” and “Oh Wild One,” that he previewed for the Montreux audience and had fully intended to put on the album he was writing and recording at the time. The rest of the set is heavy on the 1980s rock he pioneered solo, as well as his late 60s/70s work with Phil Lynott in Thin Lizzy and Skid Row.

And, of course, some blues.

Gary Moore was born in 1952 Belfast, Ireland. Heavily influenced by Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, he joined Skid Row (not to be confused with the American band of the same name) as a teenaged phenomenon in 1969 for three albums before going solo, joining Thin Lizzy, and going solo again. His hit single “Parisienne Walkways” catapulted him into the hearts and minds of discerning music lovers around the globe and subsequent forays into Celtic (Wild Frontier, 1987) and blues (Still Got The Blues, 1990) preceded an album with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce (BBM, 1994). Much more blues would follow, most notably Power Of The Blues in 2004. Through it all, he maintained the highest level of musicianship and became revered for his constant searching and the redefining of his own artistry.

This Sunday Afternoon Blues is Good for You

September 18th, 2011 No comments

Relax. It’s Sunday afternoon.

Sleep in, read the newspaper, watch football games, grill some burgers, lay on the couch and crack open a few cold ones…

That’s what Sunday afternoon is all about!

Along with a little SUNDAY AFTERNOON BLUES of course…

Special thanks to YouTube user “HaroldBelfast” for this weeks inspiration.

Mellow Sunday blues… with my friend’s dog getting in on the action! This is how I play a blues guitar solo when I’m in a mellow mood.

My custom strat that I built years ago… warmouth neck, strat body, Duncan JB humbuckers, running through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, with a Boss Loop Station and a Tube Screamer (for just a lil extra kick). I had to keep it quiet so the neighbors didn’t have a fit, so the amp’s running on about 1.

Harold…I could sit on the porch and listed to you all afternoon!
